Kimberly Guilfoyle, girlfriend of President Trump’s eldest son and one of the best fundraisers for the Trump re-election campaign, tested positive for the corona virus on Friday before an event on July 4 on Mount Rushmore, a person familiar with her condition said.
Ms. Guilfoyle traveled to South Dakota with Mr. Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. to attend a huge firework display where the President was supposed to speak. According to the person familiar with her condition, they did not travel on Air Force One and she was the only person in the group who tested positive.
Ms. Guilfoyle is the third person in possible proximity to Mr. Trump who is known to have been infected with the virus. A personal valet who served Mr. Trump’s food and Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary tested positive for the virus in May.
Ms. Guilfoyle had no symptoms, said the person familiar with her condition. She and the younger Mr. Trump never met with the president’s entourage, the person said. The couple are planning to return to the east coast from South Dakota with caution, the person said.
Still, this other person, who was expected to be near Mr. Trump, and someone who most employees consider to be a member of the Trump family, is likely to draw attention to possible risks to the President .
Ms. Guilfoyle participated in Mr. Trump’s indoor rally in Tulsa, Okla last month. Before and since then, some campaign employees and secret service personnel have tested positive for the corona virus. Herman Cain, a former Republican presidential candidate who also attended the rally, said this week that he had been hospitalized with the virus.
Even when outbreaks occurred in the south and west and states across the country report a record number of cases every day, White House officials – and especially Mr. Trump – have minimized their focus on the virus in public appearances. In an interview on Wednesday, the president said he believed the virus would “just go away.”
The president’s advisors have recently changed the protocols for people entering the White House premises, such as abandoning routine temperature checks. You have advised people with typical symptoms of the coronavirus to stay away.
But people who get close to Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence are still being tested for the corona virus.
