A knife-wielding man with a grudge killed seven middle-school children and injured 12 others when they returned home in northern China on Friday, authorities said in one of the country's deadliest massacre runs in recent years.
Five girls and two boys were killed, the office said. Another nine girls and three boys were wounded. The age of the children was not specified, but middle school students in China are usually between 12 and 15 years old.
The incident occurred at 6:10 pm local time, the division said.
A man named Zhao from Zhaojiashan Village, Mizhi County, was arrested, according to the Public Security Bureau.
The suspect confessed that he was "bullied" when he attended the same middle school when he was a kid, "hated" his classmates, and decided "A Dagger" to kill people on Friday, the bureau said.
A video from The Paper, a daily newspaper, posted on video sharing site Miaopai.com shows two or three bodies lying on the floor in a narrow alley. You hear someone call "Hurry up, call the police!" Policemen are seen walking and later worshiping a man on the street.
AFP could not immediately confirm the authenticity of the video.
Knife attacks are not uncommon in the country.
In February a knife-wielding man with a personal grudge killed a woman and injured 12 others in a bustling Beijing mall – a rare act of violence in the heavily controlled capital.

The man had entered school in the afternoon, claiming he was there to pick up his son.
In 2014, state media reported that one man killed three children and one teacher and injured several others in a school shooting at a primary school, which refused to register his daughter.
This was an incident in March 2013 in which one man killed two relatives and then killed eleven people, including six children, in front of a school in China's Shanghai trading center.
The events have forced the authorities to increase safety in the school and led to more research into the causes of such deeds.
