An off-duty Kentucky policeman was killed by a suspect pretending to be a police officer, authorities said.
James DeCoursey, 35, pulled over Hopkinsville police officer Phillip Meacham, 38, and shot him deadly at 5:22 pm, said Hopkinsville police
DeCoursey fled the scene in a stolen white Chevrolet pickup truck, police said. The police consider him "armed and dangerous".
Meacham, a married father of two, was taken to a local hospital where he died.
Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin addresses the death of the policeman.
"Tonight, a police officer was killed in Hopkinsville, KY in the line of duty," Bevin tweeted. "There is no greater sacrifice than that of a person willing to sacrifice their lives for another."
