The Los Angeles Lakers injury problems increased on Wednesday when Kyle Kuzma took part in an exercise before being treated on his hip. In the meantime, Rajon Rondo has not yet been released for return, and LeBron James will be leaving the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday.
"I hope he's fine," said Lakers head coach Luke Walton about Kuzma. I did not see him or talk to the trainers. He went in there to be treated early in practice. I'll get an update from him when I'm done out here.
The Lakers had released Rondo for full contact in training last weekend, followed by the veteran Point Guard, who played in several combat exercises. Walton said after losing the Golden State Warriors on Monday he was optimistic that Rondo would play against the Timberwolves.
"I felt like I was playing for the last few weeks," Rondo said after the session. "But we still take it day after day, so in the morning after waking up, we'll see how I feel."
A small hurdle for Rondo was the tendency to protect himself from contacts on the right hand / hand. "I did not have much contact," he explained. "It's like having a red or a quarterback jersey (in practice). It will be different in the game.
Even though there is a natural indication or pressure to return, as Lonzo Ball has been lost for four to six weeks due to a sprained ankle, Rondo attaches great importance to his health. "I have to come back when I'm healthy," he said.
"Things happen for a reason, I do not know why, but I can not come back, depending on whether other people are on the move or not."
Rondo generally has the pain site in his right ring finger It's just stiff, as soon as I work on it for about an hour and a half, it feels a lot better, "he explained.
As far as James is concerned, his work was again limited to touchlessness. "He went out there and did some exercises," Walton said.
"With him and Rondo we will see how they feel in the morning [Thursday]. See how he feels the next day and the next day. Whenever they are physically ready to play, they will play.
