Laura Bailey, Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog from The Last of Us Part 2 respond to online harassment

Naughty Dog, the studio behind The Last of Us Part 2, as well as Abby’s voice actress Laura Bailey and director Neil Druckmann have responded to the online harassment and death threats they received after the game’s release. Laura Bailey went to Twitter on July 3rd to share some of the terrible news she’s received since the release of The Last of Us Part 2 on June 19th, 2020.

Along with pictures of some of the answers, Bailey said, “Man. I’m trying to post only positive things here … but sometimes that just gets a little overwhelming. I’ve darkened some of the words because, you know, spoilers. Side note, thanks to everyone who sent me positive messages to make up for that. It means more than I can say. “

The response was overwhelmingly positive, and rightly so. Many in the industry and beyond showed support for Bailey. She answered everyone who did this.“Damn it,”

; said Bailey. “The amount of encouraging responses to this … I’ve always believed that good people far outweigh bad ones. Thank you for reminding me of this today.”

Today, July 5th, Naughty Dog went to Twitter to condemn “any form of harassment or threat to our team and our cast”.

“Although we welcome a critical discussion, we condemn any form of harassment or threat to our team and our cast. Your safety is our top priority, but we must all work together to eradicate this type of behavior and be constructive and maintain compassionate discourse. “”

An hour later, Neil Druckmann, the director of The Last of Us Part 2, shared some of the hate he got.

“You can love or hate the game and share your thoughts about it,” Druckmann said. “Unfortunately, too many of the messages I have received are hideous, hateful and violent. Here are just a handful of them (it is important to uncover them). Trigger warning: transphobic, homophobic, anti-Semitic, etc.”
