CLEVELAND – Nobody Cancels Trophies like the Cleveland Cavaliers
Between 2016 and 2017, the Cavs missed the Golden State Warriors four title celebrations. On Friday night, the Boston Celtics had their entire organization in the city and a room ready to accept the Eastern Conference title, and again the Cavs closed it.
The 109-99 Game 6 win makes it six wins in the Cavs' last seven playoffs, and puts LeBron James for a chance to go to his eighth consecutive final in Game 7 on Sunday in Boston. James, who scored 34.1 points per game in NBA history playoffs, has won his last five games 7, including the first round of the season against the Indiana Pacers.
James added to his already historic postseason with a 46-point, 1
He was particularly aggressive in the first half as he accumulated 25 points to help Cleveland build a two-digit lead. 17 of these points came in the second quarter, where he made his first three threes of the game and tried his first six free throws. James later ended the exquisite performance with back-to-back 3-pointers in a 40-second span late in the fourth quarter from his patented space on the left wing to provide the cushion they needed to complete the Finish job.
LeBron James takes Jayson Tatum one-on-one twice in Game 6.
The issue, however, was not much of a choice. The Cavs needed it to survive, but it is questionable if there will be lasting effects on Sunday. James' stamina continues to be an X-factor, and he got a blow to his lower right leg when his team-mate Larry Nance crashed onto him.
But for the Cavs, the status of Kevin Love, who has been thrown out of the ring, is more worrying considering the game's first quarter after a collision with Jayson Tatum on a concussion. Love, who suffered a concussion and missed one game in the 2016 finals and had another in March 2016, could miss Sunday's game if placed in the concussion protocol.
The absence of love was tempered by Jeff Green, who entered and urgently needed production without love. Green scored 14 points from the bench and made several crucial defense games while filling in the middle.

Continuation of the series' Bizarre Home / Road Differences, George Hill gave the Cavs an injection of playmaking. Hill scores only 31 percent and an average of 5 points in the three defeats in Boston this series. On Friday, he scored 20 points, most of the postseason, in 7-of-12 shooting. In the three games in Cleveland, Hill averaged 15.3 points to 53 percent shooting.
After a team-wide slump for the last three games, the Celtics had a much better overall offensive performance. Terry Rozier had his best game of the series, with 28 points 6 out of 10 3s, and Jaylen Brown played 27, the Celtics' starting point combined to shoot 21 of 34. Overall, the Celtics shot 51 percent.
But they had no answer for James.
