The current Lexus LC series of cars. I mean, it's beautiful – by far the best-looking Lexus since ̵
] So Lexus decided that the best way to upgrade this car is not necessarily to fix all those issues and instead just cut the roof – and you know what? If you look at the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible personally on its Tuesday night unveiling in Los Angeles, it may have worked.
We will explain it.
Look, as you cut off the roof of the LC 500, not only can you hear one of the few remaining V8 naturally aspirated engines in the business, but you also focus more on the world around you and less on the car's shortcomings , Oh, and the convertible top? It's more of a soft top than a retractable hardtop, and will take your dance from just the right place to the last in 15 seconds.
So, apart from the roof, what else has Lexus on the LC 500 changed? On the way to the convertible? Actually a lot. Lexus has specifically tuned the suspension of the vehicle to the added weight of a retractable roof, and has developed additional suspension stiffness that, if you believe Lexus, should mean that the LC 500 & vert works just like its coupe cousin. The powertrain of the LC 500 remains unchanged, so you still have to live with the 10-speed DirectShift automatic that can be switched quickly, but is not the last word in development. The 5.0-liter V8 with 32 valves and naturally aspirated engine, as well as the ability to switch between the conventional Otto combustion cycle and the more efficient Atkinson cycle, also take over the function. At 7,100 rpm and 4,800 rpm, it still makes 471 hp, which are not in the class of the frontrunners.
Other exciting convertible-specific features include a modified version of Lexus ™ Climate Concierge that will work to keep a certain temperature even upside down. Lexus calls this "Upper Body Heating", which regulates the seat heating, the air conditioning, the neck warmer and the steering wheel heating.
Lexus has also thought a lot about how the cabin deals with wind noise when the hood is down. It uses some old tricks like polycarbonate deflectors and some new tricks like a unique belt shape to curb buffeting and wind noise. Active noise cancellation also helps to suppress unwanted noise.
The Lexus Enform Infotainment System with its 10.3-inch screen transmits to the coupe. Luckily, it's compatible with Alexa, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. So you can usually ignore the below-average factory settings by relying on voice commands only for your favorite digital assistant to do the things in the form of the Lexus Safety System + standard safety technology, pedestrian detection pre-collision system, lane departure warning with active lane departure warning, adaptive Speed control and an automatic high beam includes. It also has blind spot monitoring and a cross traffic warning in the rear.
Lexus plans to sell the LC 500 convertible in the summer of 2020 as a model year 2021. But if you can not wait that long, you have it! With an extra holiday bonus to keep your money in your pocket, you can bid on a special LC 500 convertible at the auction in Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in January. All proceeds will be donated to an as yet unnamed charity.
