LOS ANGELES – Firefighters responding to a house fire in Los Angeles were thrown back after gunshots were fired on Tuesday morning, reports CBS Los Angeles. Police report that at least one person is dead.
After another person was taken away from the scene on a stretcher, the situation seemed to have been resolved. Officers at the scene stopped training their rifles on the house.
The incident unfolded when firefighters were just on the Image area was before 5 o'clock in response to a structural fire. When firefighters mobilized to fight the fire, five to six shots sounded.
It is not clear where the shots came from – outside or inside the house.
A large contingent of Los Angeles police officers in protective gear responded to the home and were seen using the fire engine for cover. The scene was referred to as an active shooter situation, and the LAPD was tactically alerted throughout the city.
