With no end in sight to the coronavirus pandemic, it looks like protective facewear will stay here.

But who says it has to be a fashion killer?

Louis Vuitton is launching a luxurious face shield that will keep fashionistas both stylish and healthy in these uncertain times.

“The LV Shield is an eye-catching headdress, both stylish and protective,” said the French couture brand in a statement.

The shield changes from clear to dark in the sunlight and protects the wearer from the sun. It also features gold rivets with the brand name Louis Vuitton and an elastic, monogrammed headband. The visor can also be worn up as a classic peaked cap, Louis Vuitton said.

Pricing hasn̵

7;t been announced yet, but as a high-end fashion brand, it’s likely not cheap. Other Louis Vuitton headgear, including hats and sunglasses, sell for hundreds of dollars.

The face shield will be on sale online and in select Louis Vuitton stores starting October 30th.

In April, Louis Vuitton joined a global effort to manufacture personal protective equipment to support healthcare workers on the front lines of the pandemic. The company said it had repurposed several of its workshops across France to make “hundreds of thousands of non-surgical face masks” for healthcare workers.

The brand also said it donated thousands of hospital gowns to six Paris hospitals in dire need of protective equipment.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not currently recommend the use of face shields as a replacement for masks, as it is not clear what level of protection they provide.
