CBS All Access released the first trailer for today Star Trek: lower decks. After a production cycle that worked from home throughout the entire coronavirus pandemic, fans finally got their first look at the first animated Star Trek comedy in action. The series debuts on August 6 in the first season with 10 episodes. New episodes appear on CBS All Access every Thursday. Emmy award winner Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty, Solar opposites) developed Star Trek: lower decks. The series follows the support crew serving on board one of the least important ships in the Starfleet, the USS Cerritosin 2380, shortly afterwards Star Trek: Nemesis. Ensigns Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi have to keep up with their duties and social life, often at the same time with science fiction gimmicks that rock the ship.
The Starfleet crew that lives on the “lower decks”
“One big thing that was important to me was figuring out how we could get these characters weird,” McMahan said in an earlier interview about the series. “How can these characters be funny and not break Star Trek? You can’t have Morty in Star Trek. You can’t just have a stupid person in Starfleet, otherwise it breaks the paradigm of how humanity is in Starfleet Our Leads So they’re foils for each other, but they’re very deeply rooted in Star Trek. “
CBS’s Eye Animation Productions, the new animation arm from CBS Television Studios Star Trek: lower decks, along with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin from Secret Hideout and Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth from Roddenberry Entertainment as well as Katie Krentz (219 Productions) are executive producers alongside creator and showrunner Mike McMahan. Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) acts as a co-executive producer. Titmouse, the Emmy Award-winning independent animation production company behind Big Mouth, serves as the animation studio for the series.
Star Trek: lower decks is the first cartoon series to join the growing Star Trek franchise on CBS All Access, which includes the original series Star Trek: Picard;; Star Trek: Discoveryand will return later this year for season three; the recently announced USS Companies Set series Star Trek: strange new worldswith Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck; and developing a Section 31 series with Michelle Yeoh. A CG-animated Star Trek series for a younger audience is also in the works for Nickelodeon.
