Macy's fireworks show shines on July 4th with stunning New Display – CBS New York

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A fireworks waterfall off the Brooklyn Bridge launched this year's Macy Fireworks in New York City.

Part of a 25-minute, stunning show over the East River.

"I just love all the reds, whites and blues and everyone who comes to celebrate Independence Day," a viewer told Ali of CBS2 Bauman.

"I've never seen such a big firework," said another person.

Around 70,000 shells and effects were fired by ships along the river and over 100 positions on the Brooklyn Bridge. Particularly large crowd puller.

This year's theme, American cinema, dubbed fireworks with a musical mix of scores of the most popular movie classics.

"Fireworks are emotional. Music is emotional. We wanted a great sound that complemented the fireworks … I want everyone to be proud and happy to party with us, "said Susan Tercero, executive producer of Macy's Fireworks Show.

Thousands of uniformed and civilian police also patrolled the public observation areas.

New this year, two NYPD drones monitored the crowd, while nearby officials monitored the feeds in real time on their cell phones.

The celebration started hours before the show when viewers hit a distance of three kilometers on the FDR Drive filled.

The Wainwright family flew all the way from California to see the legendary New York fireworks.

"We saw things on the west coast and wanted to check them on the east coast," the family said.

"I come from Jersey and always watch it on TV or whatever, so I decided to come to New York and see for yourself," Karen Timley added.
