A 10-month-old Fresno girl was shot in the head on Sunday by a man who appeared angry that the baby's mother had rejected him, police said.
The baby, Fayth Percy, was taken to the hospital where it was. Fresno police chief Jerry Dyer told reporters that she had undergone surgery to remove gunshots from her head. She is in a critical but stable condition.
The alleged gunfire took place in a house in Fresno. A man there tried to grab his mother's hand, but she refused his advances, police said. As they drove away, the suspect Marco Antonio Echartea (23) started firing at the car.
"At some point, as he approached, he pulled out a pistol and fired three rounds at the driver's side window, which was up," Dyer said. "One of these rounds hit Baby Fayth by the side of the head when she was arrested by her mother."
The police found the suspect near the house and arrested him on suspicion of three assassinations, the Fresno Bee reported. He was also wanted for another shoot in May. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer. About the condition of the baby, no further information was made.
