And the 50-year-old legend sat down with Oprah Winfrey to discuss her explosive new book The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

In a clip from her conversation on AppleTV +, Mariah revealed that she felt “nonexistent” and was treated like an ATM with a wig on.

Oprah added, “The loneliness and sadness behind the facade – I get it now.”

“I couldn’t have asked for a better way to share my memoirs than to have a conversation with my friend, therapist and icon Ms. Oprah on her series The Oprah Conversations,” wrote Mariah on a clip on Instagram.

The New York Post noted that social media savvy fans assumed Mariah was referring to her marriage to former manager Tommy Mottola.

Mariah met the former CEO of Sony Music in 1988 and the couple were married in 1993. She got married in 1997 and officially divorced on March 5, 1998.

Carey described her ‘Sing Sing’ mansion in New York as a prison with surveillance cameras and guards, according to the Los Angeles Times.

For his part, Mottola told page 6 that he was “delighted to have played this role in Mariah’s well-deserved and remarkable success and that he and her family continue to wish all the best”.

Mariah’s jack of all trades also includes how Derek Jeter played a pivotal role in helping Carey leave her husband.

“He was a catalyst that helped me get out of this relationship because I believed there was someone else,” she said.

She also revealed that The Roof and My All, two songs from her 1997 album Butterfly, were about the former New York Yankees shortstop.
