Mario Kart Tour will arrive on iOS and Android devices tomorrow, September 25th. Just in time for the launch, Nintendo launches the game's first "tour" – a biweekly one that will take place in different venues and give players the chance to unlock special characters.
Unlike previous games in the series, Mario Kart Tour offers a handful of courses inspired by real-world locations. The first tour will be based on New York City. The event will take place from 25th September to 9th October. During each tour, you can earn Grand Stars based on the number of points you have collected in a race. They will unlock new cups and tour gifts, including new drivers, karts, gliders and other items.
Mario Kart Tour includes a variety of unlockable characters, but some will only be available during touring events. During the New York Tour you will have the opportunity to unlock two unique drivers: the musicians Mario and Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey. Each driver in the title can use a special item: the musician Mario can throw two Bob Ombs simultaneously, while Pauline can use the Lucky 7.
In addition to the real locations, Mario Kart Tour offers a variety of features from courses throughout the history of the series; We got glimpses of Rainbow Road and Choco Island from the SNES game and Dino Dino Jungle from Double Dash. The game also features 30 racers who can unlock with a gacha mechanic.
Mario Kart Tour can be downloaded for free and contains microtransactions. To play the game, you need a Nintendo account. You can create one of them for free on the Nintendo website. More information about the Mario Kart Tour and its first event can be found in the video above.
