"Marvel's Runaways" Season 2: Lyrica Okano on Nico / Tina Fight, "Deanoru"

Phew, talk about a staff meeting.

In Episode 2 of Marvel's Runaways & # 39; Nico (played by Lyrica Okano) & # 39; the second season (now playing on Hulu) […] when she showed up at her family home to reclaim One's staff. There followed an amazingly violent upheaval between mother and daughter – one who threatened to demand a collateral damage on the way in Nicos friends.

TVLine spoke with Okano about how she was beaten up with TV mom Brittany Ishibashi

TVLINE | At the beginning I wanted to hear your reaction to Episode 2 and the fight on the lawn between Nico and her mother. What was your first reaction when you realized how intense she would be?
Quinton [Peeples]co-executive producer of our show, gives a lot of evidence to the facts and storylines of our character. When we first got the episode 2 script and came to this fight scene, Quinton spoke to me a little and said, "This is just a quick preview of what we can expect throughout the Nico and Minorus season. There will be a lot of battles for you. "That was really exciting for me because I knew that James Yaegashi, who plays Robert, and Brittany Ishibashi, who plays Tina, are both a black belt in martial arts. I am too. When we heard this news, we were very excited and motivated to do some training.

TVLINE | I was surprised how you felt. Like, Mom was whaling at yours.
I know! I talked to Brittany about this, for example, "Wow, I think Nico's education must have been a lot harder than we all thought at the beginning." Tina and Robert must have trained Amy and Nico from their time as martial arts young, to discipline and hard work to learn. That was the Minoru way, so it made sense.

TVLINE | What do you think to drive Nico in this scene to be as aggressive as she is ?
I mean, she has to bring her Staff of One back – that's definitely her first goal. Her second goal, of course, is to face her parents. Nico is obviously a little bit naive about how everything could go under, and as you can see what happens, she learns very quickly that everyone has to learn how to train together and build his powers together. Much needs to be done before they can go on and try to fight their parents.

TVLINE | Do you personally have the feeling that Tina has crossed some lines in this fight? [19659006] Yes. I think everyone already knows about Tina, but she has no mercy in her bones – and Nico never expected anything from her, so I do not think she's very surprised.

TVLINE I mean, when she froze the pool over Molly, I was like "Whoa".
Yes. Where did Tina want to take this? Obviously, she was not really sorry to have hurt Molly, and it kills Nico to know she may have been able to kill Molly and really hurt Karolina because of her recent decision. It'll all be with Nico, and I think from this fight scene she's learning she has to think before she does, and she has to look for everyone else. I think this is where the headspace of "hesitant leadership" begins. I think at this point she realizes that there is a lot to think about, that she has to do.

Runaways Deanoru TVLINE | Tease a bit, as the events of this struggle start to frighten Nico and Karolina.
Oh man. Yeah, I remember shooting this scene with Ginny [Gardner]and I was just like, "Oh my gosh, what's going to happen to Deanoru because we were so big fans of their relationship, it's not going to be easy Nico felt so beaten at the time and she realized that Molly's life was at stake and I think in this scene, when she talks to Karolina about having to be stronger, she does not know how to do all of them She obviously accuses Karolina of not thinking and not doing everything she could, and then she realizes that this is a much bigger problem, we as a group are too weak, and we have parents with us What will we do?

TVLINE | What do you think this new relationship represents? for Nico, because from where I am sitting, I have the feeling that she maybe five percent timid r is as Karolina.
Oh yes. I feel like her sister's death, all Nico knew was darkness. She was alone, she was isolated, she had no one to lean on, and when she rejoined Karolina, she finally saw the light again. This is Karolina for Nico – she is the light of Nicos life, and as for Karolina, Nico leads her through the darkness. I think that's why they are so dynamic. For Nico, Karolina is now her only light, especially with everything that has happened, and she really wants to make a difference with her.

TVLINE | A little further down the road, It's still the truth about the death of Amy. Let us know how Nico might react. I myself completely forgot that the truth is still out there. I know; I had to keep reminding myself that Nico still does not know the whole truth about Amy's death until it is revealed [Spoiler]. If you hear them from [Spoiler]this is probably the worst scenario that could happen to Nico. Of course, at that moment, it needed so much that [Spoiler] told her truth, and Nico obviously appreciates honesty, but it's hard. It's not easy to accept that your friend's father killed your sister and it looked like a suicide that she believed in for so long. Yes, that's a lot for Nico, and it awakens another darkness in her that you'll see later in the season.
