Matt Holliday returns with Rockies for the playoff race after crushing in Triple-A

As the season's home track sets in, the Rocky Mountains are preparing to play in both the NL West and Wildcard races. They are getting their hands on a fresh face, which is also an old friend: Matt Holliday.

Holliday was designed in 1998 by the Rockies from high school and spent the first five years and 698 of his career in Colorado. He finished as the NL MVP 2007 runner-up when the Rockies won their only NL pennant. And now, after signing a contract with his first team a few weeks ago, he was able to boost the offensive. He was convoked and will begin on Thursday in the Denver Post .

Holliday, 38, hits .346 / .452 / .596 with four doubles, three homers, 14 RBI and more walks as strikeouts in 15 Triple A games. It's Triple A competition, yes, but Holliday proves he still has something in his tank. His future teammates also take note of that. Here's Nolan Arenado in The Athletic:

"Incredible hitter," said Arenado. "When the pitchers face us and see Matt Holliday leave the bank, they'll think twice about throwing something over their plates."

"I want him to come up," Arenado said. "I want him here, he was one of my favorite players, I want to play with him, I think he can help us out of the bank, whatever, I know he can be of any help."

Arenado got his wish.

As Arenado states, Holliday could be a good weapon from the bank. What about the first base? Ian Desmond meets .344 / .303 / .436 (85 OPS +) and has been getting worse since August in August. In the left field David Dahl (.268 / .320 / .471 / 98 OPS +) and Gerardo Parra (.284 / .337 / .376 / 82 OPS +) were also improved offensively.

The best course of action will probably be to mix Holliday in first base, in left field, and as a blockbuster based on matchups and running well. Manager Bud Black is certainly well equipped in this area.

The big snack is that Holliday wears the Rockies uniform again on Thursday and it's fun.
