According to Chris Bavender, spokeswoman for the Indianapolis FBI, an arrest warrant was executed at 7:30 am in Tyler's house. "We're trying to determine what's going on this morning," said Sarah Beach, Muncie City Information Coordinator. "Once we have some information about it, we will post additional information."
Bavender referred all further questions to the US Attorney's Office, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Tyler's Administration Audited CNN affiliate WXIN reported that the investigators had been conducting a corruption investigation for several years. The Star Press reported for the first time in 201
6 that the FBI was conducting investigations into potential misconduct against Muncie's former construction commissioner Craig Nichols and Muncie's sanitation district, allegedly fraudulent, according to the US Attorney's office in the southern Indiana district Assigning orders to his own private company and stealing them.
Investigations into corruption in Muncie have led to charges against five others, prosecutors said. Earlier this year, Nichols pleaded guilty in two cases and was sentenced to two years in prison after court files.
Tyler, who grew up in Muncie and worked as line captain for the Muncie Fire Department, has led the city as mayor since 2012. Earlier this month, he ran for reelection and Republican Dan Ridenour was elected mayor in 2020 ,
Muncie, a city northeast of Indianapolis, has a population of about 70,000.
