Measles spread easily through the air when someone coughs or sneezes. People can also become ill when they come into contact with infected persons with mucus or saliva.

The symptoms of measles include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes.
While measles is a highly contagious disease, most people are routinely vaccinated during childhood and are not at high risk, health officials said. People who have not been vaccinated are the most worrisome.

If you develop symptoms of measles, health officials recommend that you call or e-mail a doctor before visiting a doctor's office or emergency room because special precautions can be taken to prevent other patients and medical personnel from becoming ill Protect infection.

There is no ongoing transmission risk at the above sites, health officials said.
