A Mega Millions jackpot worth an estimated $ 522 million was won in California Silicon Valley, in one of the largest drawings in the history of the lottery.
A single winning ticket equaled the five white ball numbers (1, 2, 4, 19 and 29) as well as the golden Mega Ball (20) on Tuesday night, the massive half-billion plus jackpot, or about $ 308.1 million in cash, according to a statement by Mega Millions to win.
The jackpot had been growing for 11 weeks before anyone finally hit payroll.
"This was an exciting role," said Mega Millions director Gordon Medenica in the statement. "Congratulations to California for taking home the fifth-biggest jackpot in Mega Millions history."
The lottery agency said the winning ticket was sold at Ernie's Liquors in San Jose. The store was not open for comment on Wednesday morning.
The identity of the winner was not disclosed.
Mega Millions officials said eight additional cards matched the five white bullets to win at least $ 1 million each. More:
