Marlborough House's Miami Beach condominium collapsed on Monday morning and injured one according to police from Miami Beach.
Rubble scattered across Collins Avenue caused Miami Beach's main north-south artery to be shut down in both directions from 41st to 63rd streets
The building no longer had any residents. Permits were drawn for the destruction of the 13-story building, built in 1963 and bought by Brazilian developer Jose Isaac Peres.
Peres is planning a 19-story tower on 5775 Collins Ave.
Monument conservator Nancy Liebman, former commissioner and founder of Miami Beach United, was in New York when the building collapsed.
Liebman lives less than two blocks from the building. She helped fight the original plan and managed to get a concession from the builder to build a 1
She said the demolition was not too far when the building went down.
"What?" Said Liebman after learning that it had fallen. "Nobody was afraid to destroy the building, it was too small."
