Michelle Obama broke the royal protocol with Queen Elizabeth

Michelle Obama still responds to the time when she allegedly violated the royal protocol when she embraced Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace in 2009.

The former First Lady talked about the amusing incident on Sunday in London when she was on the European book tour for her memoir, "Becoming".

"Yikes! Sorry, guys, "she joked as she spoke, adding that for subsequent First Lady events, she had learned to keep her hands together so she would not make the same" human "mistake again.

"I did not know I could have done anything differently because it was a natural human reaction," she said Sunday.

When Obama wrote about the spontaneous embrace in her memoir, Obama remarked that the queen seemed ok at the moment.

"Then I did what instinctively makes me feel connected to a new person, to express my feelings outwardly. I lovingly put a hand on her shoulder, "Obama wrote.

She added, "I dare the Queen agree, because when I touched her, she just pulled closer and put a gloved hand lightly on my back."

At that time, an anonymous spokesman for Buckingham Palace insisted that the moment with Her Majesty was perfect and did not violate the royal record.

"It was a mutual and spontaneous display of affection," the spokesman said at the time. "We do not give instructions not to touch the queen."
