The Michigan Wolverines are a balanced team without a true star. Talent is very present in this group and it thrives because they have versatile talent all along the line. But that does not mean that nobody in corn and blue is able to play a game.
If there is one player who can focus on his upcoming matches, Center Moritz would be Wagner. It was a strange ride for Wagner to reach the final. The German-born athlete did not see head coach John Beilein's first e-mail because, according to NBC Sports, he was in a spam folder. Oops. But once he was able to locate the message, he became the perfect big-guy for a program that has historically stacked his frontcourt with athletic players.
Wagner is an NBA Type Center
Wagner's versatility will give him the first look in the NBA Draft when he waives his final year of eligibility. He scores 61 percent this year from the two-point range and 40 percent from the three-point range. That's what makes him special.
Along with his 14 points per game, he also brings together seven boards and 1.5 blocks and steals. The tall man does a little of everything and illuminates the yard with an unsurpassed smile.
Wagner will be particularly important against Loyola-Chicago
The junior has the opportunity to show why the NBA covets big fans whose game contains more than back-to-the-basket moves. In the Final Four, he will face 6 & 9; 9 Cameron Krutwig, a 260-pound center known for disturbing color with his size. Krutwig is not fast enough, but a brick wall for anyone trying to pass him by.
When Wagner steps to the three-point line – where he shoots exactly like Watchers – Krutwig has to follow him. If he is one step slower, Wagner will have a clean look. When he recovers, the space will be in color for his Wolverines teammates release to drive the track without the presence of Krutwig to disturb them. It's a win-win situation.
This strategy could also work in the game (if applicable)
Villanova has a modern NBA center type like Wagner in Omari Spellman, but Kansas does not. If the Jayhawks can beat the wildcats, Wagner will see 7 & # 39 ;, 280 pounds of Udoka Azuibuike.
The same discrepancy will apply.
Wagner was erratic at the beginning of the tournament. That can not happen in San Antonio .
In four games, Wagner scored 5, 12, 21, and 12 points while the Wolverines advanced. In a lightweight win against Montana in the first round, Wagner did not have much to do, which is his low performance. But against Houston in the round of 32 and Florida State in the elite eight, Michigan barely survived its 12-point nights.
The Wolverines are better, the more Wagner has the ball in his hands, but bad problems prevented him from playing. That can not happen again. He played only 23 minutes against Houston and 25 against Florida State.
He has to be smarter so the Wolverines stay in touch. They can not win without their biggest discrepancy.
