The Center for the Advancement of Space Research (CASIS), in collaboration with NASA, is working on the leadership of the US National Lab on the International Space Station. The lab offers a unique environment that is very valuable to scientists because they have access to microgravity that they can not access from the ground.
People have been working in space for more than 18 years, providing us with new medical and material technologies. Microgravity can be difficult for the human body, and working on the ISS has given us an opportunity to study the effects of bone loss and treat it better on Earth. The lab's microgravity environment also allows scientists to test the efficiency of new materials that could someday be used on spacecraft and satellites.
They also perform experiments on animals, including mice, fish, and worms. Experiments with mice give us an insight into how reproduction would work in space over several generations, which could one day serve as an example, considering how human reproduction would work in microgravity.
