A 21-year-old University of South Carolina student who was missing died, the school said Saturday.
Samantha Josephson was last seen by friends on Friday between 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm, the Columbia Department of Police (19459004) said on Twitter. Shortly after 2:00 pm, investigators believe she has been caught in a black "newer model Chevy Impala". Family and friends had since no contact with her more, said the police .
The president of the University of South Carolina, Harris Pastides, sent a letter to the students on Saturday morning confirming Josephson's death.
"I am writing these words this morning with the heaviest heart," he said in the letter. "Our prayers are with the family and friends of Samantha Josephson, who are watching the devastating news of their death, and in times like these I seek wisdom and comfort, but I find comfort that the Carolina family here is to hug the wounded. "
The Columbia Police Department refused ABC News' request for further comments on the investigation and provided information on the death of Josephson, but said it would "publish soon" a statement. Efforts to reach Josephson's family did not succeed immediately.
"If you make plans for the weekend," Pastides continued and stayed together. "
