Torrent Pharmaceuticals has performed a recall of blood pressure medicines that may be associated with a carcinogenic chemical.
Torrent announced Thursday that it has recalled five more batches of high blood pressure medication following the discovery of NMBA. for N-nitroso-N-methyl-4-aminobutyric acid) in the tablets, CBS News reports. The expansion is Torrent's fifth to involve losartan potassium pills.
"Patients taking losartan potassium tablets (USP) and losartan potassium / hydrochlorothiazide tablets (USP) should continue taking their medications because the risk of harm to the patient's health is higher if treatment is given immediately without alternative treatment is canceled, "according to the website of the US Food and Drug Administration. "Patients should contact their pharmacist or doctor who can advise them on alternative treatment before returning their medication."
The Food and Drug Administration also has information on certain medicines that are included in the recall.
Drug safety officials in the US and Europe announced last week that they are working on NDMA values in Zantac and its generic forms.
