On Saturday night, Jon Jones dominated Anthony Smith over five laps to maintain his light heavyweight UFC 235 title. But there is another Anthony MMA fan who has wanted to see Jones fight for many years, and now it looks like the window is back open.
From 2014 to 2017, Anthony Johnson was among the most feared fighters in the entire MMA. After Johnson had moved from welterweight to light heavyweight, Johnson left a trail of devastation, beating off almost anyone he faced. After beating Alexander Gustafsson in two minutes, Johnson was expected to face Jon Jones at UFC 187. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the beginning of Jones' three-year self-destruction. Instead, Johnson met Daniel Cormier the light heavyweight title on two occasions, which came too short in both. In his second loss to Cormier, Johnson retired from MMA to pursue a career in cannabis and CBD, and suddenly the person who saw MMA fans as the most interesting possible fight for Jones would never see him.
Or will he?
Speaking recently with the Into the Weeds podcast, Johnson has traced his previous statements about retiring, revealing that he would still retire if he faced Jon Jones, provided Jones became one heavy. 1
Ever since he retired in April 2017, rumors have been circulating of Johnson's possible return to the MMA. At the UFC 214, as Jones and Cormier fought again, Johnson was invited to the media around the event. In October of this year, his manager stated that he and the UFC had been talking about a possible return to heavyweight since he took her to bodybuilding in his spare time. Nothing ever came of these conversations, but with this new revelation and Jones fully admitting and admitting that his shift to the heavyweight class is "inevitable," there is now a new life for those who still have hope for this lost superfight to have. However, there is only one problem: In this case, Johnson could be incredibly rusty, since "Rumble" has admitted that he has basically not trained since retiring.
"I have not trained since my last fight," Johnson said. "I was so focused on cannabis and CBD, MMA, I had to put everything else in the background, you know what I mean? I had to give my undivided attention.
The second thought might make it better for Rumble to retire.

Conor felt thoughtful.
What a sequence!
One of the craziest battles of all time.
Also the birth of McGregor FAST!
The rematch was voted the biggest fight in the history of the UFC.
My last one was a bit wild, too haha
I love this game.
That's my 3rd income level at this point.

I spoiled it with the right hook here. The angle was made. He was in the dirt. I just had to sit right in the feet and shoot. With the noise of the right hook, I lost the balance of my back hand.
Great Boxing match!
A rematch will undoubtedly be interesting. https://t.co/bYVWhOjKO4[19459003-ConorMcGregor(@TheNotoriousMMA) March 6, 2019
A quick reminder that Conor literally never defended a title in his life.
It's fascinating for me to look back on this loss. Then watch the return.
We can always come back!
Everyone can do something once. Can you do it twice, that's the question. That's why I pulled up the straps every time.
Any fool can do it once.
