On Saturday, at UFC 231, after years of release, Max Holloway will return to the cage to defend his featherweight title against Brian Ortega, provided he can gain weight. But the one man who's most concerned with Holloway's weight loss says he's not worried.
"It's funny. I'm not nervous, but I should be, "UFC President Dana White recently told MMAJunkie. "You know, I did not want him fighting again at 45. He wanted this fight so much. He was cleared up by every test and every doctor and everything we did. Come into the light this week, so we'll see what happens. Yes, it would be really bad if he did not gain weight.
Having won the featherweight title last year, Holloway looked forward to a 201
Holloway recovered quickly, intending to defend his title against Ortega in July, but was again deferred and withdrawn due to distressing symptoms from the Fight Week. Eventually he was able to fight again, and now he and Ortega will finally attack and eliminate the last hurdles at the last minute. However, these may still be in the future, as the problems that manifested in July were never properly explained by doctors. But for Dana White's money, these problems are all the same, and Max Holloway is too big to fight for 145 pounds.
"I think he has to go to 55," White said. "He is too big for this weight. You can not do this for yourself and reduce yourself to 45. But do you know what he wanted? He wants this Ortega fight. He wants to fight Ortega so badly. This is the fight he wanted. He has it. He was medically cleared, and he got what he wanted.
Holloway has rejected his doubts about his weight loss and said he appeared lighter than usual this week and reminded everyone that he has never officially lost weight before.
"I'll turn up at the end of the day," Holloway said. We'll see what happens when I show up and meet in the Octagon. I can not wait to see it.
"I never lost weight. Everybody keeps talking about that weight, and blah blah blah. Have I ever stepped on the scales and missed weight? "
However, that does not mean that Holloway is not against the idea of lightweight construction. Blessed once offered to go ahead, and he is still happy to travel up to 155 pounds or more. Whatever the best option for his career is.
"We talked a bit about it," Holloway said. "Not too much, not too crazy, you know? At the end of the day I am a champion. I am a champion. I wanted to become a defending champion, now I want to become a pound-by-pound champion.
"When it comes to a weight class, it will go up; If it stays here a few times and defends my belt, it stays here. When it comes to my good friend [Daniel Cormier]"The Kung Fu Panda," "The Daddest Man on the Planet," that's the way it is. I want to be the best that ever existed. "

What a journey it was! I would like to thank everyone who has supported me since the first day, when I set myself the goal of fighting in the UFC. Unfortunately, I was released by the UFC. I'm looking forward to 2019 and the new opportunities that may arise. Thank you all. pic.twitter.com/g64uqftgfE

For you, the nerds out there.
Dustin Poirier had an interesting day.
Just left Angola, was invited to see the Prison Boxing Championships. These guys fought each bell from bell to bell. The intensity with which they fought motivated me to be a better fighter. pic.twitter.com/35mhqxiNBM

1996: Don Frye submitted Tank Abbott to win the UFC Ultimate Ultimate 2 tournament. This is also one of the few events in the history of the UFC in which a fight was seen. In the semifinals, Frye faced Anthony Macias, a man he had beaten several times before and was led by the same man. Macia knocked 20 seconds after the attack on an Achilles tendon, which protected Frye from a hard fight before the final.
Fingers crossed Max makes weight today. Joanna-Valentina is also the best fight in WMMA history. Have fun.
Thank you for reading everything on Monday.
