A mother fatally shot and killed her four adopted children before she wrote down a gun, Tennessee authorities said Tuesday.
Cynthia Collier, 55, and four of her children were found dead on Monday night by one of Collier's adult adult children, said Maury County sheriff Bucky Rowland
"Some brief and vague information left over would suggest that it was murder suicide, "said Rowland. He said the investigators were still trying to find a motive.
The children were identified as 1
Collier's husband, the legal father of the children, was interviewed along with other family members, but none of them were suspects, Rowland said] "All the evidence leads to a self-inflicted bullet wound on Mrs. Collier," he said, adding that the investigators had found two firearms that had been used in the shooting.
He said that the commissioner "has several scenes in the house."
"We are dealing with carnage," said Rowland. "The extent of this – it was more than what we are used to on a daily basis."
Collier was a housewife who taught the children at home, and there are no records of domestic issues coming from the house that Rowland described as "immaculate."
He said Collier "seemed to be a very loving mother, except for this one event."
