PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (CBS) – Mumps Falls spreads in the entire Philadelphia region after nearly 100 instances of Temple University eruption. Mumps cases are now reported at Drexel University, West Chester University, Abington Senior High School and North Wales Elementary School.
Drexel University announced Friday that a doctoral candidate has suffered the highly infectious disease.
Drexel involves a PhD student living off campus, "the university said in a letter to students and staff.
Man breaks into Medford Township Home and detains a juvenile babysitter at Gunpoint, Police Say On Friday, school officials at Abington Senior High School informed parents of suspected mumps on campus, saying the school sent a letter to their parents and guardians on Thursday after being arrested by the Montgomery County Office of Public Health
"The Montgomery County Public Health Bureau (OPH) is currently investigating a student at Abington Senior High School suspected of mumps," the letter says.
The school also asks parents to confirm their child's vaccination.

"We ask you to confirm that your child is vaccinated with the MMR vaccine according to age. If they are not immunized according to age, it is recommended that the child receive this vaccine, "the letter said.

The latest cases come as Mumps outbreak at Temple University has grown to 93 cases. The growing number has led to an online petition calling for the temporary closure of the campus. Since then, the school has announced that next week it will offer two walk-in clinics for students, faculty and teachers.
"It's just everywhere," one student said. "I was in my ceramics class yesterday, and one of the girls received a text from her roommate who said she had the mumps and I was like," Please stay away from me.
A student from West Chester University has also entered into a contract mumps after visiting the temple on campus.

Dr Eric Sachinwella, an infectious disease doctor at the Einstein Medical Center, says the hospital recently treated a confirmed patient with mumps, but says that the disease is not usually fatal Nor is it surprised by the current number of mumps cases that are spreading rapidly.
Part of this is that Temple's original patients commute a lot, so exposure is elsewhere, "said Sachinwella.
