The incredible time-lapse video was released by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), which moved across the sun for 40 hours. The footage was shot from 1 to 3 September 2015 and shows a giant plasma cloud raging on the sun's surface. In a description of the video, NASA's SDO said, "A small but complex mass of plasma that rotates and rotates over the surface of the sun for 40 hours (September 1-3, 2015).
"It was stretched and pulled back and forth by strong magnetic forces, but not torn apart in that order.
"The temperature of the ionized iron particles observed at this extreme ultraviolet wavelength of light was about 2.8 million degrees Celsius (or 5 million) degrees F.)"
