LAS VEGAS – Spencer Dinwiddie did not want to say what role his recruitment played in landing the networks Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. But the guard was not shy when she promised that the network's newly discovered star power will beat her up in the rankings and order of New York athletes.
"We're definitely seen differently with the stars on the team," Dinwiddie said at the inauguration of the Nets' 96-92 NBA Summer League against the Mavericks. "[The Knicks’] The fanbase is deeply rooted, its history is Ingrained and they are certainly fanatics. I'm sure they wish the entire league sees them the way they saw themselves.
"We have been the best team in New York for a hot second. We beat her last year. We will beat her this year. That's pretty easy. Like I said, I do not really want that much beef with Knicks fans. I am only here to tell you the truth.
Understand that Dinwiddie resides rent-free in the minds of the Knicks fans, even optimizing it on Twitter once Brooklyn General Manager Sean Marks has made his free agent coup, in Dinwiddie's first comments since Sunday he threw more shadows to these fans.
But just because it was shadow does not mean it's wrong.
The hubris in Knicks' DNA ̵
Dinwiddie played a key role in the networks that landed Irving, though he was aware of how big. "The Post reported he subtly recruited the All-NBA Point Guard while the New York Times reports that Irving and Dinwiddie approached Harvard Business School during a seminar last summer.
"The thing about the NBA is everything you read, plausible. And when that's said, it could obviously have happened, it could not have happened. Who knows? "Asked Dinwiddie.
"[The relationship] is based only on mutual respect. Obviously, I think he's a phenomenal ballplayer and I'd like to think he thinks I'm pretty decent too. We only have respect for each other as competitors and I am pleased to be his teammate.
And when Irving was sold on the nets, he again helped land Durant and Jordan.
"Not me. I know what Kyrie KD has said," Dinwiddie said. "Your friendship is obviously very deep. All the conversations I've made are similar to what the media already know: Kenny [Atkinson] is the first coach of a player, Sean is the first GM in a family and we have many young talents. We were able to hold many young talents. I think Jarrett [Allen] will one day become an All-Star. "
Dinwiddie said the nets will fare much better this season with Irving and Jordan, and even better when Durant returns late from his broken Achilles during the season or in the years 2020-21.
And how far can this appreciation go this season?
"I think it really depends on Kawhi [Leonard]," Dinwiddie said. "You can not go beyond the champions, obviously you have to honor what they've done Milwaukee had a very impressive regular season, you have to stick to what they've done." And of course, you want the same in addition We want to be one of the best teams in the East, and this will be KD next year, so it goes without saying that we'll get better when the best player in the world comes back, so it's easy for us: Win every day and go out and measure yourself.
