New iPad Pro, New MacBook Air, Updated Mac Mini and More: What to Expect from Apple on October 30 in Brooklyn

Apple has planned one last major event for 2018 and it could be a Whopper.

Following the announcement of the iPhone XS iPhone XS Max iPhone XR and the Apple Watch 4 in September, the company is a series of reports by journalists and analysts have described Apple's alleged plans to release new iPad Pros and a thoroughly redesigned MacBook Air and possibly other new hardware, software and services. The company has not responded to our attempts to confirm these rumors.

Apple's October Event: What We Expect

Following a habit that began a week before the scheduled event, veteran Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo published his pre-show predictions (via MacRumors) about what he expects on Tuesday. Although he is not always 100% accurate, Kuo has a good track record and much of what is in his latest report is in line with the rumors we heard in the spring and summer.

Of course, Apple has not announced anything beyond the date, time, and venue. But we've analyzed all the rumors and news that we've collected over the past year, and we present a well-founded guess below about what Apple will reveal on October 30 and will not release.

And remember: CNET will be live blogging and simulcasting the event live on Tuesday, October 30 at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PT.

New iPad Pro

Based on rumor volume and level of detail, Apple is likely to announce new versions of its high-end tablets. Since the company added Pencil Support and a Faster Processor to the entry-level iPad 329 in March, 10.5-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro looked a bit overpriced at $ 649 and $ 799, respectively. Sure, they are still the only Apple tablets with laminated True Tone screens, quad speakers and Smart Connectors – but a growing number of alternatives offer competitive features at a similar price, including Microsoft Surface Pro and ] Google's new Pixel Slate .

New Rumors About iPad Pros 2018

It is worth noting that Kuo now predicts that Apple will unveil a new version of the long-neglected iPad Mini but not necessarily on October 30. This is in contradiction to an earlier Bloomberg report, which stated that the smaller form factor would not be updated. If it happens, we'd like to see an "iPad Mini 5" get at least an A11 or a newer chip along with a price drop. But with the larger 9.7-inch iPad that costs "only" $ 329 and Apple does not want to compete with the ultrabudget fire tablets of the world, this one still feels a bit hard to believe.

According to the rumors here's what Apple may have with the next generation iPad Pro:

  • New designs with thinner bezels and no home button
  • Apple's TrueDepth Camera Array [19659025] Face ID, which can be supported in landscape mode
  • Faster loading
  • USB-C connectivity
  • Improved components including new processors
  • A new version of the Apple Pencil

New MacBook Air

In August, Bloomberg reported that Apple would release a new "low-cost MacBook" before the end of 2018. According to sources, this will not be another modest upgrade, but a dramatic redesign laptop that incorporates modern Apple features but at a price that is reminisely affordable for students, schools and other budget-conscious consumers.

What we want to see at Apple's October event

Apple has continuously updated its premium MacBook Pro line of products and introduced new 13-inch and 15-inch models in July. But the company has not done much in recent years with the popular but aging MacBook Air. In fact, the $ 999 laptop remains essentially the same device that Apple introduced in the fall of 2010, but for a few modest updates. The current model, released in August 2017, includes a number of outdated components, including a fifth-generation Intel Core processor (compared to eighth-generation competitors) and LPDDR 3 memory. Meanwhile, "Airs apparent" – the 12-inch MacBook and the 13-inch MacBook Pro without Touch Bar – have difficulty reaching the mainstream appeal of the Airs at their $ 1,300 startup prizes

In short: it's high time for a new MacBook Air.

Rumors of new features include:

  • A new 13-inch design
  • New processors and other components
  • High quality Retina Display
  • Possible support for Touch ID
  • USB-C Connectors
  • A starting price of $ 1,000 or less

Other Mac Updates

In addition to the MacBook Air, there are a few other Apple computers available for an update. Of all the Apple devices, none is overdue for an update like the Mac Mini, which was last updated in 2014. Rumor has it that we're likely to see a new version of it on October 30, possibly including configurations with a more "pro" bow.

The old Mac Mini could finally become one Get update.

Tuesday would also be an ideal time for Apple to implement CPU and Specs upgrades to other Macs in the series that would otherwise retain their basic design. Do not be surprised if the iMac and the 12-inch MacBook receive Intel's eighth-generation CPU.

The Touch Bar-enabled MacBook Pros have already received a nice update for 2018 and the iMac Pro is not yet a whole year old, so do not expect them to be mentioned on stage. And if the new MacBook Air delivers the value you expect, you should not be surprised if the MacBook Pro disappears without a touch bar when the Apple Store returns after the event.

Less to see Brooklyn

The confidence for new iPad Pros and new Macs is high. As for the other long-rumored products in Apple's pipeline? These products are possibilities, but we would call them Long Shots.

AirPower Charging Pad

Apple introduced its AirPower Wireless Charging Pad in September 2017. The concept: Charge your iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods Case at the same time on the inconvenience of cables and plugs. Since the announcement, which contained no details about the price or release date (beyond "sometime in 2018"), we have not heard much about it. AirPower was mentioned in some 2018 iPhone promotional materials but even was largely cleaned up by Apple's website . As Apple on 19.10. A USB-C Magnetic Charger for the Apple Watch plugged into its online store, it was quietly made, as if the company does not want to draw attention to the problem of wireless charging.

AirPower: Apple's Charge – All Tech

In June, Bloomberg reported that Apple was struggling with the AirPower pad, but still hoping to release it in September. Obviously, that did not happen. It has since been rumored that Apple killed the product. But Kuo reports that the company could launch AirPower at the October event, later in 2018 or early next year – possibly in a reconfigured form. AirPods 2

We've heard that Apple is developing a pair of high-end AirPods with noise suppression, water-resistance, a wireless charging case, and handsfree speakerphone for Siri. In September, the company could have raised the new AirPods in its eventful video Mission: Impossible. But we have not heard much since then and there is little chance of the new AirPods being unveiled on Tuesday.

In the pipeline for 2019 and beyond

  • rumors are rumored to be Apple's TV service next year to be published. The company has already invested $ 1 billion in the effort, hired two top TV managers to lead the business, and signed big deals with Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, M. Night Shyamalan and Steven Spielberg. [19659023] In view of the rollout of TVOS 12 in September, Apple is unlikely to introduce any new TV sets or updates in the near future.
  • Despite the persistent rumors of new iPhone SE his failure to perform at the September event is likely the death knell for the popular, tiny device. Apple refreshed it last in 2017.
  • Apple should have thought about a smaller, cheaper HomePod. According to rumors, it should have worked in 2019.
  • Apple has confirmed a completely redesigned Mac Pro and Apple's new displays will appear, but not before 2019.
  • A Apple AR Headset ? Maybe – but wait no earlier than 2020.
