In PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds on PC now runs a new event mode. Developer PUBG Corp. has released a new time-limited playlist called Metal Rain, which will only be available for a short time in the popular Battle Royale game.
Metal Rain is a squad mode for eight players on PUBG's original card, Erangel. This time, flares will "spawn" alongside normal loot positions rather than in fixed locations. The firing of the flare gun within the security zone leads to special care packages; however, when fired outside the zone, a special vehicle, the armored UAZ, falls off.
Metal Rain is available for up to 96 players, split into 12 eight-man teams. You can invite up to seven friends to form a squad. You also have the option to disable automatic search if you do not want to play with a full team of eight players. Metal Rain will be available only on weekends and will end on Sunday, April 22 at 7PM PT / 10PM ET (4AM on April 23). You can read more about the mode on Steam.
In other news, PUBG Corp. announced. Recently, it is working on a card selection feature for the game. The feature is supposed to appear "soon" on the test server, giving players the opportunity to decide if they'd rather play at the start of a game on Erangel or the newer Miramar. If the player selects both cards, then the game will randomly choose between them.
PUBG Corp. also has some more details about the under development third card, codename: Savage, who recently went into her second round of testing, revealed this week. Savage is remarkable because it is much smaller than PUBG's other two cards – 4×4 versus 8×8 – but another feature of the card is that there will be an underground cave system. Game developer Brendan Greene has also teased PUBG, and could get more 4×4 (or possibly larger) cards in the future.
