I was really not sure what to expect from A Star is Born . It got so much buzz and yet the trailer made the movie so melodramatic, sweet-and-sweet, twee, overworked and maniacally romantic. And those are all these things. But it is also so incredibly serious. She loves her characters, her music, her emotions and wants you to love her, too.
And somehow it works. The film looks like a brilliant production on a large budget, but often has the interests and sensitivities of a movie with 1/10 of the budget. There's a lot to unpack in the movie, but what intrigues me most is how much he likes putting a cheap Indian vibe on a big and shiny canvas.
Characters become larger than life, sometimes mythical figures, but then retreat into other confused and vulnerable people. The film is long, and sometimes messy, but it still feels small enough and so tied to the characters that it holds everyone together.
Take a look at 1
Weirdly Enough, last weekend I accidentally picked out an old edition of Artemis Fowl book and saw a Miramax Books logo over the spine, which in my opinion means that This series should be set in motion almost two decades before. Now it's finally about Disney, which has released this week a first trailer. I would have to call this trailer "pretty bad", strangely more focused on building the world for a series with a minimal cultural cache than on … I do not know if I'm introducing a character or the sound, or even the subject , We will see how that works. The film will be released on August 9th.
If Beale Street Talks
I think it's pretty clear that Barry Jenkin's next film will be another beautiful, melancholy portrait of people fighting for their lives. This trailer actually shows less than some of the earlier ones, but it's a good reminder why this will be worth seeing when it comes out next month. It will be released in limited edition from 14th December.
I Am the Night
Here is a new trailer for Patty Jenkins upcoming TV series I Am the Night which Patty Jenkins seems to recognize. Participation is worth loud advertising. The show looks stylized and scary through and through; the warm colors, the strange locations and outfits. I'm on it The show starts on January 28th.
I think I'm even more excited to see how Vox Lux fails after watching A Star is Born seems an even darker, twisted version of that, what the two artists go through. This trailer suggests that the movie does not shy away from big, funny, musical numbers – which is hard to discuss when written by Sia. The movie will be released on December 7th.
Neo Yokio: Pink Christmas
And here it is, the trailer to my most anticipated release of the season: a new installment of New Yokio which is impossible sarcastic and ridiculously ritzy anime by Ezra Koenig , I can not wait. It will come out on the 7th of December.
Star Wars Galaxy Wars
Disney takes out parts of the original Star Wars movies and merges them into a series of animated short films. The animation looks fun, although Disney talks in a curious way about how young kids should hang on to Star Wars before they're really old enough to enjoy the movies. The short films should be released on Friday on the new Star Wars children's channel on YouTube.
State Like Sleep
Katherine Waterston stars in this Noir, which leads her from a mourning widow to a silent investigator of the death of her deceased husband. Early reviews were mixed, but it looks like a thriller that hits all the right beats. The film will be released on January 1st.
Happy as Lazarro
I do not have the slightest idea what's going on in this trailer, but everything just looks incredibly enjoyable. This movie won the Best Screenplay Award at this year's Cannes, and the description by Netflix claims that the main character can "seemingly travel through time". She came out on Friday.
Happy Anniversary 2U
I missed the first of them when he came out, but apparently people liked enough that a follow-up comes a year later. The film features a comedic, Groundhog Day turn on a classic Slasher movie, resulting in something much more fun than the average horror movie. It appears on Valentine's Day.
Springsteen on Broadway
Bruce Springsteen is about to complete his highly successful Broadway show – a collection of songs, stories and dreams in a mostly one-man show format. But in the second it goes to Netflix for the rest of the world. You can catch it from the 16th of December.
Rilakkuma and Kaoru
I have already sold since it is the best original from Netflix.
