Newlyweds swept away in Alaska trying to reach the bus "Into the Wild"

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A newly-weds from Belarus who were swept away by a river in Alaska tried to reach an abandoned bus, which became famous through the book and the movie "Into the Wild".

Veramika Maikamava, 24, and her Husband, 24-year-old Piotr Markielau, drove on Thursday in the bus in which the wanderer Christopher McCandless was killed in 1992, reports the Fairbanks Daily News Miner .

The bus has been the source of several rescues since it became famous, first through Jon Krakauer's book published in 1

996, and then through Sean Penn's 2007 film. Both reported on McCandless' life and death, with little food and equipment in the wilderness of Alaska and spent the summer in the bus. McCandless was found dead on the bus nearly four months later.

According to Alaska State Troopers, Markielau called on Fairbanks soldiers late Thursday to report his wife's death during a hike on the Stampede Trail near Healy when the woman was flooded. The river flowed high and fast because of the recent rains.

According to soldiers, Markielau was able to pull his wife out of the water a little downstream, but she had died by then.
