Lionsgate, defeating several contenders such as HBO Max and Paramount, is in final negotiations to undertake The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talents (Can There Be Somewhat More Cage-like?), The Hollywood Reporter has learned it. The Meta-Film Project contains a screenplay by Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten, to which Gormican is attached as a director.
Cage would act as actor Nicolas Cage. The character is desperately interested in getting a role in a new Tarantino movie while at the same time having a tense relationship with his teenage daughter. Occasionally, he also talks to a selfish version of himself from the 1990s, riding him because he has made too many fucking movies and is no longer a star.
The Cage character is also under a mountain of debt and is forced to attend The birthday party of a Mexican billionaire who happens to be a fan of Cage's work and secretly wants to show him a script he has worked on.
While connecting with the man, Cage is informed by the CIA that he's a billionaire. Actually, a drug cartel kingpin who kidnapped the daughter of a Mexican presidential candidate and is recruited by the US government To get intelligence information. Even more dramatic is the situation when the Mexican converts Cage's daughter and ex-wife to reconciliation and when their lives are at stake, Cage takes on the role of a life.
The story is meta and contains pitching works such as Leaving Las Vegas, Face-Off and In 60 Seconds Over, while the screenplay, Cage and the Mexican author write events begins to reflect in the plot. The project has tones of adaptation in which, inter alia, Cage, Jean-Claude Van Damme's Metafilm JCVD and John Travolta's Hollywood Capitol played Shorty played a major role ,
Kevin Turen, who produced the newly released drama Waves and was executive producer of HBO's Euphoria produced with Cage and his Saturn Films banner along with Mike Nilon.
] The fact that there is even a vivid interest in Unbearable Talent is part of the invention of a Hollywood dream factory, since the screenplay was not even to be seen by buyers. Gormican wrote and staged the little-watched rom-com That Awkward Moment with Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, and Miles Teller, and created a comedy with Etten Ghosted for which it ran one season on Fox. The two wanted to shake up their careers and wrote Unbearable Talent as a sample script in the hope that it would open additional doors. The script was sent according to sources about months ago. The interest seemed to explode at the same time as many thought that the screenplay itself could be salable and what if Cage did it himself?
According to sources, the screenplay Cage was shown along with a letter Gormican wrote: pleading for his case, saying the play was a love letter to the actor, not something that made fun of him. Cage was convinced and met with great interest only in the last few weeks.
The interest in the project was so great that sources claim Cage was close to achieving a payday that would put him in the same range he was in when making such studio hits as Con Air and National Treasure.
Cage re-staffed by WME, Stridge Management and Goodman Schenkman. Gormican is being re-teamed by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment and Goodman Schenkman. Etten is re-examined by UTA and 3 Arts.
