Nintendo Sues Popular Console ROM Sites for Serious Copyright Infringement

  Super Mario
Nintendo is not a fan of third-party emulators and ROMs, to put it mildly. There is a full FAQ section on their website explaining Nintendo's attitude towards emulators and ROMs, but to avoid this, the company is suing two of the more popular console ROM pages for pirated hosting. One of them has closed.

The two sites include LoveROMS.com and LoveRETRO.co. According to TorrentFreak it is assumed that both sides are operated by the same person, Jacob Mathias and his Arizona company Mathias Designs LLC. In Arizona, Nintendo filed the lawsuits alleging copyright infringement for "overwhelming numbers" of piracy.

"The LoveROM and LoveRETRO websites are among the most open and infamous pirated online centers." Complaint. "Through the LoveROMs and LoveRETRO websites, the defendants reproduce, distribute, publish and display a staggering number of unauthorized copies of Nintendo's video games, all without Nintendo's permission."

  LoveROMs
Nintendo is suing two popular ROM sites for alleged defamation of hosting pirated games.

LoveRETRO is not working as it was – when you visit the site, you see a message stating that it was "closed until further notice", along with a thank you message for users who visited the site , LoveROMs remains, but all Nintendo ROMs are gone.

According to Nintendo's complaint, the website owners are not casual gamblers but "sophisticated parties with extensive knowledge" about the company's IP and the entire games industry. Nintendo wants both websites shut down. It also seeks $ 150,000 for each infringing game and up to $ 2 million for any trademark infringement.

If you sum up all the titles that were hosted, the coveted damage goes up to $ 100 million. In addition, Nintendo wants the site operators to reveal the sources of the infringing ROMs.
