Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book is said to have emerged for a Florida State game with rib injury

According to Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book, Saturday's game against Florida State will be missed for multiple rib injuries.

Coach Brian Kelly is expected to deliver an update during his Thursday afternoon press conference.

Irish Illustrated and The Athletic both reported that Book had suffered the injury at last week's 31:21 win in Northwestern last week.

Book replaced Brandon Wimbush as starter in Week 4 at Wake Forest, and Notre Dame's offense flourished. He has completed 74.5 percent of his passes for 1,824 yards with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Wimbush has completed 55.3 percent for 589 yards with a touchdown and four interceptions in four games (three starts). He also rushed for 1

44 yards and a touchdown. Wimbush started last season with 12 of Notre Dame in the 13 games.

Kelly addressed Wimbush's role during his press conference on Tuesday.

"He was great," Kelly said. "He has treated himself great. To be honest, he was a great teammate with Ian Book. He was as supportive as any player in our team I've ever coached. He was there for him at half-time in the locker room. The first one to sit down with him and tell him what's going on, what we need to do is Brandon Wimbush.

"He has to stay ready. Who knows what happens, right? Every week we remind him. He knows that he is one step away from returning to the field. He practiced very well. That's the biggest thing, above all, it's easy to lose your advantage if you do not start. He fought that. So he's just a great teammate and kept himself prepared.
