NXT TakeOver: Review in New York, Grade

NXT Tag Team Championship – War Raiders (c) defeated Ricochet & Aleister Black via Pinfall to retain the title: Talk about a fun and entertaining way Way to start a TakeOver card. Both teams chose not only the expected amount of athletic risk-taking and stiff beating, but also their collective comedy timing. Black and Ricochet tended several times nearby until the champion could defend their crown as Hanson and Rowe Ricochet drifted off the top rope with a tandem embankment. Ricochet stayed down long after the match, before all four embraced in a presumably NXT shootdown for Black and Ricochet before the SmackDown title match on Sunday at WrestleMania. Grade: B +

NXT North American Championship – Velveteen Dream (c) def. Matt Riddle on Pinfall to retain the title : It took longer than expected for it to heat up and the physical chemistry between them began to manifest. The last third of the game was hot fire. Creative mixed creations in a series of well-known finishing tensile tests from codebreaker to family. He also hulk to pop the crowd in an extended sequence mimicking Hulk Hogan. Riddle was able to do so during his biggest NXT match to date despite his first defeat in WWE. Dramatic reversals became the norm until Dream reversed a brimstone attempt to roll up Riddle for the 1-2-3. Both wrestlers, who are likely to meet again years later, hugged each other after the match in a respectful attitude. Grade: B +

WWE UK Championship – WALTER def. Pete Duke (c) over Pinfsll to win the title: Dunne, the longest-standing reigning world champion of all sorts, is currently in WWE, seeing his brilliant run as the UK champion in what is best described as can be a war of attrition. The physical game was also a strong launch for random American fans, as unique is the Austrian big man Walter really as a stiff striker and insidious athlete who at times stood well in contrast to Dunnes intensity and joint manipulation style. The problem was that the match was far too long and littered with countless false results. While the big spots were well done, they could not connect with the more profane moments. Grade: C +

NXT Women's Championship – Shayna Baszler (c) def. Bianca Belair (by submission), Kairi Sane and Io Shirai retain the title : Fun spotfest here as all four rivals keep up the pace, alternating between memorable (and high-risk) moves. The sportiness of Shirai and Sane, who teamed up in the first half of the game before betting on each other, perfectly compensated for the power of Baszler and Belair. Belair turned in one of the best places when she took Shirai and Belair on the shoulder in a double firefighter before slapping her. The goal came when Baszler was behind Belair to use her Kirifuda choke, which slowly forced the tap. Baszler celebrated after the match with Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir at her side. Grade: B

NXT Championship – Johnny Gargano def. Adam Cole 2: 1 to win the title (2 of 3 falls): Come to hell, flood or outside interference, Gargano's Storybook conclusion of the end of NXT Mountain was worth the wait. Even if it happened without an injured Tomasso Ciampa on business. Cole, a late replacement after a neck operation, forced Ciampa to vacate the title, was the perfect dance partner for "Johnny TakeOver" to write another instant classic. Of the insanely hard blows Gargano kept bringing to such a dramatic trio nearby, one that was more absurdly dramatic than the other, this game had it all.

The pair opened up with Chain Wrestling and in the latter case developed into one wild sequence after another, when Gargano refused to emerge from repeated final attempts, and unlikely to oppose the conclusion of Cole's three undoubted era. Fellows had resisted. The match also had a surprising, happy ending when Ciampa hugged behind Gargano on the stage and hugged herself with a ruff and hugged his former # DIY teammate and Gargano's wife, NXT superstar Candice LeRae. Ciampa has even launched an attack on Gargano with the pump after the broadcast was aired. Cole scored an early first fall on a running knee at the back of his head to create a needle. Gargano defused the fight shortly thereafter, by forcing a tee with his Gargano Escape Submission Hold. In the third fall, Gargano produced another crash as the crowd in the Barclays Center exploded into celebration. Note: A +
