NEW YORK – In the summer of 2016, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he "called everyone" about the availability of his two best enthusiasts, Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller.
This included the Red Sox and Mets.
"The only way you fit together" It's rivalry to choose and the other wants to fight another day, "said Cashman on Friday.
When the Yankees were ready, Boston in a three On the line, Cashman had just finished a conversation with Red Sox counterpart Dave Dombrowski.
Now, Dombrowski may be the only person in the game that Cashman will not hold any trade talks with.
But, you bet "Cashman has kept in close touch with the fading Mets."
"If there is anything to improve our club, obviously our stated preference is clearly pitching and reinforcing and verifying it improve, "said Cashman.
And if the Mets are ready to make a deal Jacob de Grom or Noah Syndergaard, the Yankees will be talking at every step of the conversation.
Cashman, who explained his recent conversations with the Mets in general, mentioned his longstanding friendship with special assistant Omar Minaya.
"I was already engaged to Omar, expressing our interest and leaving it to Sandy (Alderson)," Cashman said of the GM's Met.
"Sandy called me then … (and we did) one Entertainment before Sandy had to step down because of his illness, so I've been texting with Sandy ever since, wishing him well and a speedy recovery, and then I had a follow-up interview with Omar. & # 39; 14 Bronx, NY; New York Yankees Second ” width=”540″ height=”405″ data-mycapture-src=”” data-mycapture-sm-src=””/>

Of course, the Yankees threw a wide net to start throwing after being struck with the Rangers' C-mutton, had been linked to the YES of the Blue Jays, Happ and the tiger Michael Fulmer
Rays right-handed and E X-Yankee Nathan Eovaldi is also a potential target.
"We dispersed our troops daily, from analytics to scouting," Cashman said. "The hardest part is arranging ourselves in a way that makes us feel good."
Clint Frazier, currently blocked in the Yankees' crowded outfield, is one of Cashman's best trading chips, but "I would like to keep him here," Cashman said. "He is not someone who is easily accessible."
And yet, as Cashman admitted, "it will cost something to get things for a World Series run."
Given his relationship with Minaya: "That's me. Call the Mets to share their GM assignments with John Ricco and JP Ricciardi."
But Cashman knows Ricco and Ricciardi too well.
"I'll talk to anyone with whom I have to speak, "said Cashman," I think I will mainly deal with Omar, but if someone else wants to call me, that's fine too. & # 39; & # 39;
But when both sides come to a serious stage, when they talk about a difference maker in deGrom and the better prospects in the Yankees' system, the last call will lie with him.
"From an owner's point of view, things are very different," Cashman said, "Hal Steinbrenner needs to get a big picture." And that would be fair to the Wilpons too. There is a lot of momentum involved. "
Cashman has made past dealings with the Mets involving David Justice, Robin Ventura, Mike Stanton and Armando Benitez, and he was also willing to trade Chapman and Miller to Queens.
" Listen, We're trying to get our team back to where their team was not that long ago, "Cashman said of Mets pennant.
So I'll stay in touch with the Mets like everyone else," Cashman said. There is no full-court press.
"The hope is, as at any close of trading, to find the right song to which both of us can dance."
