Three people – two fighters and a coach – were fined UFC 244 by the New York State Athletic Commission -in for the event last Saturday. Cordeiro was also fined $ 200.
In addition, the NYSAC handed UFC light heavyweight Corey Anderson the maximum fine – $ 10,000 – for "unsportsmanlike and disorganized behavior" following his disgruntled win over Johnny Walker. Anderson seemed to push the referee off during his celebration after the fight.
All persons are suspended by the commission indefinitely until their fines are fully paid, NYSAC spokesman Mercedes Padilla reports.
UFC took place at Madison Square Garden and was led by a BMF title fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz. The fight ended with a controversy as the Cageside Doctor broke off the fight over a cut through Diaz's right eye. The doctor was subsequently threatened by fans.
NYSAC officials initially pledged a review of the measures taken by Gastelum on the scale. However, a few hours later, the commission found that the middleweight had violated the rules that were imposed following another UFC weigh-in controversy that prohibited a fighter from contacting someone while he was on the scale. As a result, he would face a sanction.
Gastelum's weight on the 1
In an interview with MMA Fighting, Cordeiro denied any wrongdoing. He said there was no way to support Gastelum's weight and called the controversy "drama to sell the fight".
MMA Fighting has tried to ask the fighters and the coach for comments, and will update the story with each response.
