HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A Kentucky police dispatcher says an officer was killed. According to Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks, the male officer was at the time of filming Thursday night, CBS Nashville affiliate WTVF reports.
A Dispatcher from the Hopkinsville Police Department confirmed that an official was killed on Thursday, but could not provide the circumstances. She said she could not give her name.
Hopkinsville police told WTVF-TV that the suspect, James Kenneth Decoursey, was trying to pull over a driver. The driver was an off-duty cop, and shortly after Decourey had initiated the fake traffic stop, he allegedly shot the cop.
In Frankfort, the legislators in the house portrayed Rep for a moment of silence. Walker Wood Thomas of Hopkinsville announced that an official had been shot dead.
Kentucky State Police determined, but no information was immediately available.
Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin tweeted his condolences Thursday night and wrote "Thank God for the #ThinBlueLine."
