Eight trains of the Long Island Rail Road are canceled or end in Jamaica during the morning rush hour, after a train derailed on Saturday with only staff in Manhattan, the agency said.
The cancellations will impact Babylon, Port Washington, Ronkonkoma, Far Rockaway and Oyster Bay outlets, the agency said Sunday.
Saturday saw a derailment as the train pulled through the West Side Yard around 5pm, the LIRR said. Two cars in the middle of the train broke the rails and damaged the tracks.
An employee on the train reported back pain, the agency said.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation and LIRR staff were on site on Sunday to make repairs, the agency said.
Canceled: The 6:57 pm train from Freeport, due at Penn Station at 7:40 pm; the train at 6:58 from Hempstead in Penn at 7:52; the train at 7:29 am from Freeport in Penn at 8:1
Two trains, which normally arrive at Penn Station at 8:06 am and 8:14 am, will end in Jamaica – the 6:54 pm train – from Central Islip and the 7:26 train from East Williston. Drivers can change trains to Manhattan, the LIRR said.
The train service was not affected on Saturday and Sunday, said the LIRR.
