Ohio GOP State Senator Troy Balderson wins US House specials

Ohio State Republican Senator Troy Balderson was named the winner of Ohio's 12th Congressional District on Friday, denying the Democrats the great disappointment of the November elections.

Trump-backed Balderson had declared victory over the Democrat Danny O'Connor on 7 August, but O & # 39; Connor had refused to admit because of the small edge.

According to the Associated Press, after the last absent and temporary ballots were counted, Balderson defeated O & Connor by 1680 votes – a mere 0.8-percent margin in a district Trump won by 11 points two years ago.

The result dropped 520 votes outside the window to trigger an automatic recount.

Balderson takes the place previously held by Republican Pat Tiberi and resigned in January to accept another job.

But Balderson and O & # 39; Connor will meet again in November for a full term.

The special election was a test of the electorate's morale before the November high mass kes general election, which will decide which political party controls the house.

Balderson's victory challenges Republicans concerned about how Trump could play among voters, especially in political battlefield states like Ohio. O & # 39; s chances were long looked at in the germanded district, which was held by Republicans for nearly 35 years.

Republicans had taken O & # 39; Connor's comments on MSNBC to support Democrats Nancy Pelosi for spokesman, accusing O He said he would vote for Pelosi as a speaker – though he would back her if the party needed him for Pelosi to get 218 votes.
