After tracking down the two leads for his latest story, now simply known as Richard Jewell Clint Eastwood builds the cast for the true story around them. Olivia Wilde and Jon Hamm are the newest recruits.
Captain Phillips Billy Ray wrote the script based on an article authored by Marie Brenner in 1997 entitled The Ballad Of Richard Jewell . . The story revolves around the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Jewell, a security official from the event, was originally hailed as a hero because he found a suspicious backpack on the sports grounds and helped bystanders before the bomb it contained exploded. ] But soon the Atlanta Journal Constitution which was working on a law enforcement tip, reported that Jewell suited the profile of a potential bomber and descended the media, camped in front of the house where Jewell lived and mated with his mother FBI triggered investigation. The story became a national scandal, although Jewell was clarified three months later. He died in 2007 at the age of 44 years. Paul Walter Hauser will play Jewell while Sam Rockwell negotiates to become his lawyer.
Wilde plays reporter Kathy Scruggs, who reported on the incident as it unfolded while Hamm is on the run, an FBI agent investigating the attack and its aftermath. Kathy Bates has also made a deal to play Jewell's mother Bobi.
Eastwood prepares to shoot the movie this year and Warner Bros. supports him. Wilde, who recently published her directorial debut Booksmart is producer in the television series Best Seller . Hamm, on television screens in Good Omens has updated Lucy In The Sky and Top Gun: Maverick .
