One of the largest aluminum companies in the world is currently threatened by cyber attacks.
Norwegian aluminum company Hydro said that virtually all IT systems are down due to a "massive" attack that started and continues on Monday night.
Background: The company is one of the largest aluminum and renewable energy companies in the world and employs approximately 35,000 people in approximately 50 different countries.
Communication Lines: The company website is inactive, so at present it uses Facebook as its main means of communication. While most of their IT systems are affected, their power plants usually run on isolated systems.
Security Measures: In a post, Hydro said the attacks would not have harmed anyone, even though they "had affected operations in several of the company's businesses worldwide. "Wherever possible, we had to switch to manual operation.
Early days: Hydro said it was too early to assess the source, impact or extent of the attack, but he did contact all the relevant authorities and will provide updates as soon as possible.
