Android users are finally starting to realize how much they have left behind in updates. Exhausted by iPhone owners who get annoyed with important iOS updates every year, they've begun to raise their voices, and fortunately, some OEMs are starting to pay attention. Huawei has recently promised to release updates every two months. Now, OnePlus makes a similar commitment, but has more details to share. And at least superficially, everything is fine.
All OnePlus phones have a two-year "Regular Software Maintenance" from the release date. This includes new features, new Android versions and Android security patches. However, unlike Google, Essential and HMD, versions are released every two months rather than monthly. Better late than never, right?
But wait, there is more! At the end of the two-year period, OnePlus will continue to provide updates for "Software Security Maintenance" for another year. This only includes Android Security Patches and is also released only every two months. These areas actually reflect the same policy that Google used for its Nexus and Pixel phones (except for Pixel 2).
This schedule is now in effect, but unfortunately, OnePlus does not reset the counter. This means that the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T, both launched in 201
This is definitely good news and shows once again how OnePlus will do everything it can to stand out from the status quo. Nevertheless, we still have to see how well they will work in the coming months in practice.
