Neighbors said Lebechuck had told the homeless in recent weeks that they could not stay in the area where they allegedly lived in tents for years.

"He always stays up to date because he does not want them to take over his neighing Borhood," McNeel Fox 12 told her father.

Lebechuck is said to have turned to Schneider when the suspect said he had to take a cell phone out of his backpack, but instead pull out a knife.

"It really is a miracle [Lebechuck] survived this attack," McNeel wrote online. "My father is a hard-working man who tried to protect his neighborhood."

Schneider was imprisoned in Multnomah County jail on Sunday for a first-degree charge.
