PORTLAND, Ore. – The only hospital in Oregon to offer heart transplants terminates its program indefinitely, just days after the announcement it would run the program for 14 days expose.
Oregon Health & Science University has lost all four cardiac transplant cardiologists on the heart transplant team and can no longer perform operations and no longer provide postoperative care.
The Portland Hospital said Friday that it aggressively recruits heart transplant specialists to restart their 32-year-old program, but can not provide a timeline
All 20 patients on the waiting list were either in other medical Centers relocated or decided to stay with OHSU
The University of Washington says it has added eight patients to its program.
The hospital is examining 327 post-transplant patients to see how they can meet their needs.
