The recent armor update causes Blizzard to go back to the numbers of certain heroes – and they'll have new tools to do that.
Heroes with Ray Attacks are treated differently in Overwatch, as they do not do damage in the traditional sense with messy balls.
Blizzard's hero designer Geoff Goodman discussed possible changes on the way for characters with these beam weapons due to their interaction with the new armor patch. Winston's Tesla Cannon has damage other than projectile weapons.
Zarya, Symmetra, Winston, and Moira have weapons that fit into this category, which Goodman calls "channeled effects."
"The impact is reduced by a flat rate like any other source of damage [against armor]," Goodman said. "The size of the damage packages, however, depends only on how fast they tick, even though the tuning of the weapons is done via a general DPS calculation."
He specifically mentioned Winston, a character with little damage packages, but a "faster Tick, "as a figure that may not damage the armor as much as intended.
"Winston's Tesla Cannon was initially retuned when he had a faster refresh rate because he felt much better Use this path. At the moment, however, it also means that it does much less damage to the armor, "says Goodman.
Symmetra is another Channeled Effect character who receives a tech update.
Blizzard does not say that But they say that Zarya, Winston, Moira, and Symmetra will need extra looks in the current Meta – and new technologies will help balance them in the future.
"We're getting new technologies to help us do that we can separate the armor reduction amounts for these effects from their refresh rate, which does not mean that we need to go through and polish all of these weapons, but we'll go over them and make sure we're happy how much damage they're doing to all armored targets . " The new technical changes should allow Blizzard to make their line-up even more balanced old, as Winston and the others can set their attacks apart from traditional weapons, such as those used by Soldier 76, Tracer or Reaper.
